Bought a Blackmagic Camera But Can’t Find DaVinci Resolve Studio?

Congratulations on your new Blackmagic camera! Typically, Blackmagic cameras, such as the Pocket Cinema Camera, Cinema Camera, URSA, Pyxis series, include a license for DaVinci Resolve Studio. This license is provided as an activation key printed on a physical card included in the camera's packaging.
What’s Included With Your Camera?
Blackmagic cameras that ship with a full license of DaVinci Resolve Studio typically include a:
-
Small booklet or envelope
-
Inside is a credit card–sized plastic activation card
-
Printed with a 25-character activation key
This card unlocks the full Studio version, not the free version you may have already downloaded.
Where to Look in the Box
The DaVinci Resolve Studio card is easy to overlook. Here’s where you should check:
-
📦 Inside the main box flap — sometimes it’s loose between cardboard layers.
-
📘 Tucked inside the Quick Start Guide or Welcome Booklet
-
💽 Inside the SD card envelope (if included)
-
📚 Beneath the plastic insert that holds the camera or accessories
Take your time and check thoroughly before assuming it’s missing.
Downloaded DaVinci Resolve but Can’t Activate?
This is a common issue. Blackmagic offers both:
-
✅ DaVinci Resolve (Free version)
-
🚫 DaVinci Resolve Studio (Paid version with activation)
If the software is asking you to buy again or activate, make sure you’ve downloaded DaVinci Resolve Studio, not the free edition. You can download the correct version here:
Didn’t Get a Card? What to Do Next
If you thoroughly checked the packaging and didn’t find the activation card, take these steps:
-
Contact your place of purchase
Reach out to the reseller or store where you bought the camera. Ask if your unit was supposed to include a license key. -
Check if it was an open-box or used item
Sometimes used or demo units are missing the key. If you bought it new and sealed, it should include the activation / license key. -
Contact Blackmagic Design Support
If the seller can’t help, contact Blackmagic Support. You’ll need:-
A copy of your purchase receipt
-
Your camera’s serial number
-
A photo of your packaging (if requested)
-
They may be able to issue a replacement or offer next steps.
Final Tips
-
Don’t throw away the box — Keep it until you’ve verified everything is inside.
-
