Blackmagic Micro Converters 12G are a new class of ultra-compact broadcast video converters that enable customers to connect consumer HDMI to professional SDI equipment. They are small enough to be used anywhere due to their rugged and miniaturized design. Customers receive professional 3G-SDI or 12G-SDI connections, depending on the model, enabling them to work with SD, HD, and Ultra HD resolutions up to 2160p60. Micro Converters are powered via USB, which enables them to be plugged directly into televisions or laptop computers. Customers can even purchase them without the need for a power source. Only Blackmagic Micro Converters incorporate custom electronics that adhere to global broadcast specifications and are future-proof.

The SDI to HDMI Micro Converter 12G model is ideal for monitoring in all SD, HD, 4K, and Ultra HD resolutions up to 2160p60. It includes a 17-point three-dimensional LUT for calibrating monitors' colors. Additionally, customers can output the 3D LUT through the 12G-SDI loop output. Additionally, it supports DCI film formats such as 4Kp24, 4Kp47.95, and 4Kp48.

The SDI to HDMI 12G model of the Micro Converter is ideal for connecting HDMI cameras and computers to professional SDI equipment. Two 12G-SDI outputs are provided for connecting to SD, HD, or Ultra HD equipment. It supports 3G-SDI levels A and B when working in high definition. Additionally, this model supports film standards such as 4Kp24, 4Kp47.95, and 4Kp48.
The Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 12G model supports simultaneous conversion in both directions and between different standards. Customers can simultaneously convert SDI to HDMI and HDMI to SDI. Additionally, it enables customers to use Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras with professional SDI live production switchers via camera control protocol conversion.

Unlike other small SDI converters, Blackmagic Micro Converters incorporate the latest broadcast technology into a rugged metal enclosure. Each converter features broadcast industry-standard SDI and HDMI connectors of the highest quality. Blackmagic Micro Converters feature a USB port for power and setting changes via the converter utility on Mac and Windows. Customers can also power the converter via televisions or laptop computers, as the converter is powered via USB. There are even status LEDs. Customers can also purchase Blackmagic Micro Converters equipped with an AC power supply and four international adapters.

In comparison to low-cost converters, Blackmagic Micro Converters feature superior signal processing and a deep bit depth video pipeline. Micro Converters feature precision electronics that enable customers to achieve extremely low SDI jitter, allowing them to extend SDI cables over long distances. This is critical for live production, as equipment such as cameras may be located a considerable distance from switchers. Blackmagic Micro Converters support 8 and 10-bit video formats in RGB or YUV, as well as all SD, HD, and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60, depending on the model. Additionally, they support 1080p24, 1080p47.95, 1080p48, as well as 4Kp24, 4Kp47.95, and 4Kp48 film rates. Additionally, customers receive fully integrated audio and timecode support.

Certain models include a 3D LUT for color-accurate monitoring. Custom looks, color, and gamma adjustments can be made in real time for on-set monitoring. Additionally, customers can apply Plus LUTs to the SDI loop output, allowing them to use the converter as a 3D LUT processor. 3D LUTs are ideal for converting an inexpensive computer monitor or television into a color calibrated broadcast or grading monitor. SDI to HDMI 3G, SDI to HDMI 12G, and BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 12G models all include 3D LUTs. Customers can even create custom 3D LUTs using DaVinci Resolve. Due to the fact that DaVinci Resolve is a free download, it costs nothing for users to begin creating their own library of 3D LUTs. Consider reproducing vintage film stocks.

Micro Converter 12G models include everything necessary for today's high-dynamic-range (HDR) workflows. Customers can begin monitoring HDR content immediately by connecting an HDR monitor, projector, or television. The PQ and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) formats for static metadata in the VPID are handled in accordance with the ST2108-1, ST2084, and ST425 standards. The Micro Converter 12G models support ST425 which adds two new bits to the VPID to indicate whether the transfer is SDR, HLG, or PQ. Additionally, the ST2108-1 standard specifies how HDR static or dynamic metadata should be transported over SDI. Additionally, ST2082-10 12G SDI and ST425 3G SDI sources are supported. The colorspaces Rec.2020 and Rec.709 are both supported.
The 12G models of the Blackmagic Micro Converter include all of the SDI and HD formats found in the 3G models, as well as powerful Ultra HD and 4K formats. 12G-SDI formats include 2160p23.98, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p29.97, 2160p30, 2160p47.95, 2160p48, 2160p50, 2160p59.94, 2160p60, 4Kp23.98 DCI, 4Kp24 DCI, 4Kp25 DCI, 4Kp29.97 DCI, 4Kp30 DCI, 4Kp47.95 DCI, All of these formats ensure that the Micro Converter 12G-SDI models comply with future film and television standards, allowing customers to upgrade to Ultra HD at any time.

"Our Micro Converters are extremely popular, and these new models feature a custom design that runs Blackmagic OS, allowing us to include many more features than the previous models could support," said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design. "We believe customers will adore these new models, and we look forward to providing them with new software updates as we add additional features!"
