Blackmagic Design Slashes Prices on PYXIS 6K and Cinema Camera 6K

Blackmagic Design has announced a significant price cut across its full-frame 6K camera lineup, with savings of more than $1,000 on some models. The move is aimed at putting professional large-format cinema cameras within reach of more filmmakers.

According to Blackmagic, the reduction was made possible by securing better pricing on components, and the savings are being passed directly on to customers.

What You're Getting

Every model in the lineup shares a full-frame 6048 x 4032 sensor, giving shooters shallow depth of field and the ability to use anamorphic lenses uncropped for a genuinely cinematic look. Dual native ISO up to 25,600 keeps noise low across a wide range of lighting conditions, and the sensor can capture up to 36 fps at full resolution or 120 fps when windowed.

The large sensor also opens up flexible shooting formats: an open-gate 3:2 image for maximum reframing room in post, true 6:5 anamorphic capture without cropping, and a Super 35 windowed mode for an instant close-up crop that still matches open-gate footage.

Lens compatibility is broad across the range. The L-Mount version works with the latest full-frame glass from Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma (plus adapters for older lenses), the EF version lets shooters use photographic lenses they may already own, and the PL version accepts professional cinema lenses from ARRI, Zeiss, Cooke, and others without an adapter.

Resolution and frame rate options span HD through DCI 4K and full 6K, along with 24.6-megapixel stills. Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty said the improved component pricing made it possible to bring a lower price to customers, calling it a new way for more filmmakers to tell their stories.
