The BirdDog XL Ultra White is a cinematic PTZ camera built around a large 4/3" CMOS sensor with a 20× optical zoom lens (40× in HD) and a built-in 100° panoramic camera powered by a 1/1.8" sensor.

Imaging and Lens System

The camera is equipped with a 20× optical zoom lens (up to 40× in HD) with an optical low-pass filter (OLPF) and built-in ND filters. This produces sharp, detailed images, reduces moiré on LED walls, and provides precise exposure control, ensuring consistent performance in both studio settings and dynamic live production environments.

Dual-Camera Architecture

In addition to the main PTZ lens, the XL Ultra integrates a secondary 100° panoramic camera. Both capture 4K60 UHD video and can operate independently or simultaneously. XL doesn’t just give you one camera—it gives you two. Alongside the main PTZ is a built-in 100° panoramic camera powered by a 1/1.8" sensor—larger than what many PTZs use as their primary.

Both cameras shoot in 4K60. Both are independently controllable and output simultaneously as separate sources. Whether over IP or baseband, mix as needed.

Motion and AI Tracking

XL features BirdDog’s most advanced AI tracking engine yet. Tune its behavior to match the moment—lock on tight, float gently, or follow dynamically. From a CEO at the podium to a guitarist in full flight, XL adapts with precision and personality. Trained on real-world motion, it doesn’t just track – it performs. Connectivity and Workflow Support

With 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, and optical 12G-SDI via SFP+, XL plugs into any setup. Balanced XLR with phantom power, PoE++, and SFP enable long runs. BirdDog UI provides full control, and a next-gen processor ensures future firmware is ready to roll. You’ll run out of cables before you run out of options.

For IP workflows, the XL Ultra delivers Full NDI and NDI HX3 streaming, with simultaneous secondary protocol support for SRT, RTMP, or RTSP. This dual-streaming design makes the camera equally capable in broadcast, live streaming, and hybrid infrastructures. Support for Genlock and FreeD protocol adds compatibility with XR stages, AR pipelines, and multi-camera sync workflows.

Production Utility

Designed for professional environments, the XL Ultra includes BirdDog’s RGB Halo Tally system, dual e-ink displays for camera ID and status, and a rear tally system for multi-camera setups. Genlock and Timecode keep multiple cameras perfectly in sync for XR and live productions, while FreeD makes AR/VR integration simple. The optional PTZ mount lets you install the camera on a truss, tripod, or ceiling for a secure and clean setup.
