Description
Product Overview
Matrox Maevex MGX E1 Single 4K60 Encoder is built for professional AV-over-IP systems that need high-quality 4K60 video without pushing uncompressed bandwidth across the network. It takes a single HDMI source, encodes it as H.265 or H.264, and distributes the stream using IPMX, Matrox IQ Mode, or standard streaming protocols.
The MGX E1 is aimed at environments where picture quality, low latency, and network efficiency all matter. It supports H.265 4:2:0 or 4:4:4 encoding up to 4K60, dual 1/2.5 GbE network connections, USB extension, local HDMI output, and standards-based NMOS discovery for integration into larger IP media systems.
Highlights
- Single-channel 4K60 encoding – encodes one HDMI source at up to 3840 × 2160p60
- H.265 and H.264 support – provides efficient compressed transport for different AV-over-IP requirements
- IPMX and Matrox IQ Mode – supports professional IP media workflows with low-latency operation
- Dual 1 / 2.5 GbE networking – provides two RJ45 network interfaces with separate MAC addresses
- Local HDMI output – keeps on-site monitoring available while the source is being streamed
- Integrated USB extension – supports keyboard, mouse, webcam, and other USB-based remote workflows

Why It Helps
Moving 4K60 video over a standard IP network usually comes down to finding the right balance between image quality, latency, and bandwidth. The MGX E1 is designed around that tradeoff. H.265 compression keeps network demand lower while still supporting high-resolution 4:4:4 workflows where color precision matters.
The encoder also gives engineers more than one transport option. IPMX and Matrox IQ Mode cover low-latency AV distribution, while RTP/RTSP, SRT, and MPEG2-TS make the unit easier to place into systems that already use conventional streaming protocols.
USB support is useful when the remote endpoint needs more than video. Keyboard, mouse, webcam, and other USB devices can remain part of the workflow, which makes the MGX E1 suitable for control rooms, collaborative workspaces, remote desktops, and other interactive AV installations.
System Characteristics
- Low-bandwidth 4K60 transport reduces network load compared with uncompressed AV distribution
- 4:4:4 H.265 support preserves higher color detail for desktop, control-room, and visualization applications
- Multi-protocol delivery lets the encoder work across IPMX, Matrox IQ Mode, RTP/RTSP, SRT, and MPEG2-TS environments
- Dual Ethernet interfaces provide flexible network integration using 1 or 2.5 GbE links
- USB extension supports interactive remote control alongside video transport
- NMOS discovery and control helps the encoder fit into standards-based professional IP media systems
