Magewell Ultra Encode SDI Plus is a compact SDI streaming and recording encoder for live production, broadcast, remote contribution, and IP video workflows. It combines dual-stream H.264 and H.265 encoding with NDI HX2, NDI HX3, SRT, RTMP, HLS, RIST, and other streaming protocols while offering Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, PoE, internal recording, and browser-based remote management.

4K30 Dual-Stream Video Encoding

Dual-stream encoding provides independent main and sub streams for different delivery requirements. The main stream can be encoded at resolutions up to 4096 × 2160p30 using H.264 or H.265 HEVC. Separate profiles make it practical to create a high-quality program stream alongside a lower-bandwidth version for additional destinations.

NDI HX2 and NDI HX3 Encoder

Native NDI HX2 and NDI HX3 support integrates the encoder into IP-based production environments. NDI HX3 encoding supports bitrates up to 62 Mbps, while tally indicators provide preview and program status. This makes the unit useful for network production, remote studios, and distributed live workflows.

Multi-Protocol Live Streaming Encoder

Stream using RTMP, RTMPS, SRT Caller, SRT Listener, RTSP, HLS, RIST, NDI HX2, NDI HX3, MPEG-TS over UDP or RTP, TVU ISSP, and ZIXI. The encoder supports up to six simultaneous streaming sessions across compatible protocol combinations. Native workflows are available for YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and Wowza.

128GB Internal Video Recording

Record directly to 128GB of internal storage without requiring an external recorder. Additional recording targets include USB storage and NFS or CIFS network-attached storage. MP4, MOV, and TS recording formats are supported along with normal, loop, and scheduled recording.

PoE Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet

A Gigabit Ethernet connection provides wired network transport and IEEE 802.3af PoE support for simplified installation. Integrated 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi supports station and access-point modes. An optional USB 4G or 5G modem can also provide mobile broadband connectivity when a fixed network is unavailable.

Web UI Remote Encoder Management

The browser-based Web UI can be accessed from a computer or smartphone to preview video, configure encoding, manage streaming destinations, control recording, and update firmware. Magewell Control Hub and Zixi ZEN Master provide additional centralized management options. HTTP APIs are also available for third-party control integration.

What is Magewell Ultra Encode SDI Plus used for?

It converts an SDI video source into compressed IP streams for live production, broadcast, remote contribution, and online streaming. It can also record internally, to USB storage, or to compatible network-attached storage.

Does the SDI encoder support 4K?

The main encoded stream can reach 4096 × 2160p30. The current Magewell specification lists SDI input and loop-through signals up to 2048 × 1080 at 60 fps.

Does it support NDI HX3?

Yes. The encoder supports both NDI HX2 and NDI HX3 for network video workflows. Magewell specifies NDI HX3 video bitrates up to 62 Mbps.

How many streaming destinations are supported?

Up to six streaming sessions can operate simultaneously depending on the protocol combination. Some protocols have specific session limitations, including exclusive operation for an NDI HX3 session.

Can the encoder record without a computer?

Yes. It includes 128GB of internal recording storage and can also record to compatible USB storage or NFS/CIFS network storage. MP4, MOV, and TS file formats are supported.

Can Ultra Encode SDI Plus use PoE?

Yes. IEEE 802.3af PoE is supported through the Gigabit Ethernet connection. The unit can also operate from its 5V DC power input.

Can it stream over 4G or 5G?

An optional compatible USB 4G or 5G modem can be used for mobile broadband streaming. The modem is not included with the encoder.
