What the Blackmagic SDI Expander 8x12G Does

If your facility runs on 12G-SDI — cameras, routers, production switchers — and you are moving toward a SMPTE-2110 IP infrastructure, the Blackmagic Design SDI Expander 8x12G is the bridge that makes it work. It converts eight independent 12G-SDI signals to SMPTE-2110 over redundant 100G Ethernet, while simultaneously converting eight separate IP streams back to 12G-SDI outputs. Both directions. Full bandwidth. All at once.

That is 16 channels of real-time bidirectional conversion in a single 1RU device. For broadcast engineers managing OB trucks, central equipment rooms, or live production facilities, the density alone changes the calculus on an IP upgrade. And because both 100G Ethernet ports run SMPTE 2022-7 seamless protection switching, a network fault during a live broadcast does not cost you a single frame.
