The largest ATEM IP switcher — built for broadcast-grade live production

The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP Plus is Blackmagic's flagship native SMPTE-2110 production switcher. It delivers 64 inputs and 52 outputs over 16 × 100G Ethernet connections — all with SMPTE-2022-7 seamless protection switching on every port. Every single input has a dedicated hardware standards converter, so you can route any format from anywhere and the switcher handles it automatically.

Large-scale broadcast Sports arena Network news Live events Production truck

Sixteen 100G QSFP28 connections — eight pairs, each pair running full SMPTE-2022-7 redundancy across two independent network switches. Each connection handles 8 Ultra HD channels bidirectionally. That's 64 inputs and 52 outputs over just sixteen cables, replacing hundreds of BNC connectors.

Real-world IP productions never run one clean standard. The Plus has a dedicated hardware standards converter on every one of its 64 inputs — route 720p feeds alongside 2160p60 sources and the switcher normalizes everything automatically, with no external gear required.

Rather than just adding a lot of 10G Ethernet connections, we realized we needed a whole new design. Not only does front to back cooling mean they are quiet, but using bi-directional 100G Ethernet means each port can handle 8 video inputs and outputs.

Everything a large production needs — included

No usage tiers, no license add-ons, no per-seat charges. Every feature ships with the hardware from day one.

SMPTE-2022-7 seamless redundancy
16 × 100G QSFP28 connections run in 8 redundant pairs across two independent network switches. Dual RTP streams compared by sequence — first valid packet wins. Cable fails mid-show, you never see it.
64-input standards conversion
Every one of the 64 inputs has a dedicated hardware standards converter. Route 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p60 sources simultaneously — automatic normalization, no external converters, no patching.
Fairlight Live audio integration
Full SMPTE-2110 software audio mixing via USB-C. Multiple talkback buses, camera and engineering loops, commentator mixes, AFL/PFL solo, third-party plug-ins, immersive audio — all included.
4 multi-views — up to 64 views
Four independent multi-view outputs with 4 × 16 pattern options, giving up to 64 routable windows simultaneously. Different operators can monitor completely different source groupings at the same time.
NMOS IS-04 / IS-05 native
Full NMOS IS-04 discovery and registration (v1.3.2) and IS-05 connection management (v1.1.2). Peer-to-peer via mDNS/DNS-SD. Integrates cleanly into NMOS-managed IP infrastructure without proprietary control layers.

Common questions

What engineers ask before they spec the Plus

How many network switches do I need for full SMPTE-2022-7 redundancy?
Two independent 100G-capable managed switches supporting IGMP multicast. The Plus has 16 QSFP28 connections in 8 redundant pairs — connect each pair to a separate switch. Arista, Cisco Nexus, and Mellanox Spectrum are commonly deployed at this scale in professional broadcast IP infrastructure.
Can I use SDI cameras and equipment alongside the IP inputs?
Yes. Connect a Blackmagic SDI Expander 8x12G to bridge 12G-SDI sources into the IP workflow. The expander passes talkback, tally, camera control, and program return back to SDI cameras — keeping your existing camera fleet operational during a phased IP migration.
What is the difference between the 52 outputs and the 48 aux outputs?
The 52 total outputs include program, preview, and 48 aux outputs. The aux outputs are fully routable — any of the 48 can be used as SDI program or preview outputs. This gives you maximum flexibility for multi-destination delivery from a single switcher.
Does the Plus support the Blackmagic IP10 codec for high-frame-rate Ultra HD?
Yes — the Blackmagic IP10 codec is optional and supports 2160p59.94 and 2160p60 as SMPTE-2110 IP video, enabling high-frame-rate Ultra HD over the existing 100G infrastructure.
Is ATEM Software Control included at no extra cost?
Yes — free for macOS (Sonoma 14.0 / Sequoia 15.0 or later) and Windows 10 and 11. No software subscriptions, no per-seat licensing, no usage-based charges. All features are included in the hardware purchase price.
