  • Support for both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets.
  • 360° image viewer allows rotating the viewpoint of lat longs & cubemaps (same controls as rotating the 3D viewpoint)
  • The Texture tool will now use red-green channels as a UV map, if UV channels aren’t found, for easier stitch mapping.
  • Spherical Camera - renders 360° captures of 3D scenes as a cubemap or latlong/equirectangular image.
  • PanoMap - converts between latlong/equirectangular and various cubemap image formats, and also allows spherical rotation.
  • LatLong Patcher - extracts an undistorted 90° window from a latlong image for paint fixes etc, and applies distortion to map fixes or new elements back into latlong images.
  • Spherical Stabilizer - smooths and stabilizes camera rotation in 360° clips. (Fusion Studio required)

Formats

  • H.264 support on macOS and Windows
  • MXF file support
  • Improved DNxHD support
  • FFmpeg can be installed to further increase codec support

Tracking
The new planar tracker in Fusion 17 Studio calculates motion planes for accurately compositing elements onto moving objects in a scene. For example, the new planar tracker can be used to replace signs or other flat objects as they move through a scene. Planar tracking data can also be used on rotoscope shapes. That means customers don’t have to manually animate motion, perspective, position, scale or rotation of rotoscoped elements as the image changes.

Fusion 17 Studio also features an entirely new camera tracker that analyzes the motion of a live-action camera in a scene and reconstructs the identical motion path in 3D space for use with cameras inside of Fusion. This lets customers composite elements with precisely matched movement and perspective of the original. Fusion will auto analyze the shot and calculate lens focal length and lens distortion.

  • Camera Tracker will track and matchmove live-action camera’s motion and reconstruct the identical movement and motion paths into Fusion’s 3D environment. (Fusion Studio required)
  • Planar Tracker tracks subjects and regions in a live-action scene and calculates planes of motion. It tracks perspective, positions, scale, and rotation. Corner pinning a new billboard image onto a moving shot or a new sign on the side of a truck is an example. (Fusion Studio required)
  • Planar Transform for Roto will output a Planar Transform node which is used to control roto shapes. (Fusion Studio required)
  • Point Cloud has updated features.

New Keyer
The new delta keyer brings state of the art image science to Fusion’s keying tools. In addition to new image science and processing, delta keyer features a complete set of matte finesse controls for creating the cleanest possible keys while preserving fine image detail. There’s also a new clean plate tool that can smooth out subtle color variations on blue and green screens in live-action footage, making them easier to the key.

New channel difference Delta Keyer and Clean Plate tools as well as updates to Ultra keyer.

  • Delta Keyer
-A classic channel difference keyer, with color bias and spill replacement.
-Supply a clean plate to improve shadows and separation from the background (a background color still needs to be selected to indicate the dominant background channel).
  • Ultra Keyer
-Improvements allow a wider range of background colors (not limited to fully saturated blue and green).
-Separate solid and transparent garbage masks.
-Can use background subtraction rather than post-multiply to remove the screen.
  • Clean Plate
-Build a clean plate for DeltaKeyer when a proper clean plate isn’t available.

Studio Player and Bins
Fusion 17 Studio includes Studio Player, a new application that features a playlist, storyboard and timeline for playing back shots. Studio Player can track version history, display annotation notes, has support for LUTs and more. The new Studio Player can output via Blackmagic DeckLink and UltraStudio devices, making it perfect for customers that need to see shots in a suite or theater for review and approval. Remote synchronization lets customers around the world synchronize Studio Players in multiple locations. In addition, Fusion 17 Studio features a bin server so shared assets and tools don’t have to be copied onto each artist’s local workstation.

Studio Player is a new playback engine in Fusion 17, giving artists a playlist, storyboard, and timeline of multiple shots, version history of shots, annotations, and multi-user collaboration. (Fusion Studio required)

  • A simple single-layer timeline: gives the ability to play a number of shots, and set trim for each shot.
  • Per-shot color adjustment controls allow for consistent display of shots from different formats.
  • Annotation notes can be typed on each shot and version, as well as the whole project.
  • Audio: Scratch track and audio per clip.
  • Fully collaborative workflow automatically synchronizes reel changes, annotations, and color adjustments across multiple workstations, allowing multiple artists or supervisors to access the same projects simultaneously.
  • Remote sync allows multiple Studio Players to follow the master. Actions performed on the master, such as Playback and Scrubbing will also be executed on the slaves, allowing the reel to be reviewed across multiple workstations or sites.
  • BMD UltraStudio and DeckLink playback devices supported.
  • Shot versions can be stored in the same project to allow for quick access to previous work and for comparison of progress.
  • Guide overlays can be customized to show monitor/title safety and show crops to various output formats.
  • Scriptable: Studios can automate tasks using the Fusion scripting engine to control features and clips of the Studio Player.
  • Single, looped, and ping-pong playback, with a definable loop range.
  • Ability to view clip metadata, with a live update during scrub/play.

Fusion 17 Studio also gives customers unlimited network rendering. This means that large studios working on complex shots and high-end visual effects-heavy feature films no longer have to pay a license fee for each render node. Customers simply purchase and install Fusion 17 Studio on all of their artist workstations and then install it on as many render nodes as they need, without any additional charges or ongoing maintenance costs. In addition to all of the new features, Fusion 17 Studio has more GPU and OpenCL acceleration, making it faster than ever. Fusion 17 Studio also works with additional formats and file types such as DNxHR, MXF and more. This makes it suitable for use in an even broader range of workflows and provides seamless integration with DaVinci Resolve files.

Now only $299. It costs less than most annual cloud-based subscription plans, making Fusion more affordable than ever before. This new low price makes it easier for DaVinci Resolve users to add Fusion Studio to their suites and get incredible keying, paint, compositing, tracking, motion graphics, titling and more.

Fusion 17 Studio other features:

Visual Effects
Hollywood’s top visual effects are made up of hundreds, sometimes even thousands of different 2D and 3D elements, blended together to create amazing, realistic-looking scenes. Fusion features a fully 3D node-based interface, can import 3D models and scenes from popular applications, and has hundreds of tools, effects, and filters for creating convincing and lifelike visual effects.

Compositing
The starting point for all visual effects is compositing, the layering of one image on top of another. Fusion makes it easy because there are only 2 basic tools you need to get started. The Merge tool lets you quickly composite two images together in 2D space, and the Merge 3D tool lets you quickly composite multiple images together in 3D space.

Node Based Workflow
Hollywood’s top artists prefer to work with nodes because they need precise control over every element. Each node is its own image processing operation. Nodes are connected together to create a node tree, which is like a flow chart. Unlike confusing stacks of layers, nodes make it faster and easier to create and edit complex scenes!

3D Workspace
Fusion is a true 3D visual effects compositing and animation application that lets you create entire scenes in an infinite 3D workspace. You can create and render complex scenes that combine 2D footage with 3D models, geometric shapes, animated cameras, lights and more. You can even add volumetric effects like fog and mist!

Keying and Mattes
For seamless compositing you need to be able to remove blue, green or any other color backgrounds. Fusion features several keyers, including the all new delta keyer which uses advanced image science, along with a complete set of matte finesse controls, to give you the cleanest possible keys while preserving fine image detail.

Rotoscoping
Rotoscoping uses shapes to isolate actors or objects from other elements in a shot. Fusion’s bezier and B-spline tools let you quickly draw, track and animate custom shapes. Planar tracking data can be used on shapes so you don’t have to manually animate motion, perspective, position, scale or rotation as the image changes!

Tracking and Stabilization
To look realistic, objects have to move in perfect synchronization. Fusion can automatically track, match move and stabilize objects in your shots. You can even use the new improved planar tracker to replace signs or other flat objects as they move. There’s also an improved camera tracker that analyzes and matches the movement of the live-action camera that was used to shoot the scene!

3D Particles
Fusion’s 3D particle generator opens up an entire world of swirling, sparkling, fantastic effects! Use them to simulate realistic snow or rain, complete with physics like gravity, avoidance, and bounce. Add behavioral forces to create a flock of birds or colony of ants! Particle systems work in 3D, which means they can swirl and surround other elements in your scene!

Color
Fusion’s 32-bit floating-point color pipeline integrated Open Color I/O, and extensive toolset for processing true linear, converting between color space and display monitoring, along with Analyzation scopes makes the precise work of VFX color processing easy!

Virtual Set Extensions
Today’s movies often contain small live-action sets that look massive, thanks to computer-generated extensions! Fusion can import and render 3D models and scenes from popular software like Maya, so you can composite, light and render in one step. In addition, projection tools can be used to quickly render scenes, without having to use complex 3D geometry!

Infinite 3D Workspace
The powerful infinite 3D workspace in Fusion is OpenGL accelerated so you can interactively modify millions of polygons, deep volumetric atmospherics, and 3D particle systems without having to wait! You can view previews instantly, and final renders are done in seconds instead of hours!

Interactive VR
With Fusion 17 you get a full 360º panoramic workspace that is completely interactive. You can use the built-in panoramic viewer or wear popular VR headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. GPU acceleration makes it extremely fast so you can wear a headset and interact with elements in your VR scene in realtime! Plus, the new 360º spherical camera renders out complete scenes, all in a single pass and without the need for complex camera rigs!

Import 3D Models and Scenes
Fusion lets you spend less time recreating the work you did in other apps like Maya and 3ds Max, and more time moving projects forward! You can import cameras, load FBX scenes or take advantage of the Alembic format for animated geometry. That means you can import a 3D virtual set extension, composite it, light it, and render it all in the same software!

Built-in 3D Objects
Fusion lets you quickly create your own 3D objects using the built-in drawing tools and primitives! There’s even a library of basic objects and shapes, so you can get started quickly. If you type text or import a vector illustration, you can instantly extrude it into 3D space, define the object’s edge bevel, material, texture, shading, reflection and more!

Lighting and Shading
In order to create believable 3D scenes, you need sophisticated lighting tools. Fusion lets you add unlimited, customizable light sources and control how elements within the shot react to lighting so you can set up incredibly detailed 3D sets! Control ambient, directional, and point lights, or cast shadows over 3D geometry using the spot light!

Comprehensive Stereoscopic Tools
Fusion uses advanced optical flow tools to correct the intricate alignment and disparity issues that can occur during 3D production. Fusion simplifies stereoscopic workflows by using a single camera and can even create 3D from 2D source material. That’s why Fusion is used by more studios than any other solution to convert 2D movies into 3D!

Deep Pixel Compositing
When you render a 2D EXR image out of a 3D application, you get RGBA data for every single pixel. You also get XYZ position information for each pixel’s location in 3D space. Fusion uses this deep pixel data to let you add volumetric effects to 2D rendered images. You can add things such as fog or custom lights and render it in seconds, not hours like it would take in 3D software that uses full models with complex geometry!

Volumetric Effects
Atmospheric effects, like fog or mist, can dramatically increase realism in your scenes. Fusion uses GPU acceleration so you can instantly see how the effects interact with the rest of the scene, all without having to wait for renders! Volumetrics can also use world position data from deep pixel render passes so fog realistically moves both in front of and behind elements in your scene!

Multi-Channel Render Pass Workflow
Instead of tweaking color, brightness, and other image processing operations in a 3D application, you can use Fusion to accelerate your workflow! A single EXR file can contain the diffuse pass, specular pass, normals, world position, and more. Each of these can branch off in Fusion’s node tree, allowing you to quickly apply filters and effects, without having to spend time on needless re‑renders!

Unlimited Network Rendering
When you buy Fusion Studio you get unlimited licenses to install its advanced 3D, 32-bit float renders engine on as many nodes as you need! You can use the built-in render manager or applications like Deadline, Qube, and Rush to manage your rendering. Best of all, you don’t have to pay per-node render licensing like other software!
