The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K from Blackmagic Design gives filmmakers a full frame 6K cinema camera built around a 36 × 24mm HDR sensor, active L-Mount and Blackmagic RAW recording. Open gate capture preserves more sensor area for reframing, anamorphic delivery and high-resolution post-production, while CFexpress Type B and USB-C media keep the recording workflow practical on set. Dual native ISO 400 and 3200 supports controlled studio lighting as well as lower-light location work. It is a compact digital film platform designed to stay useful from acquisition through final grade.

Key Features

Blackmagic 6K digital film camera cinematic color workflow for narrative production

Digital Cinema Camera

Full Frame 6K Cinema Camera for Cinematic Production

A full frame 6K cinema camera gives narrative crews more room to shape depth of field, preserve highlight detail and build a consistent color pipeline. The 6K sensor records 12-bit Blackmagic RAW, giving editors and colorists broad control over exposure, color and image detail in post-production. For independent filmmaking, documentary production and commercial work, that means the acquisition format can stay consistent from set through DaVinci Resolve.

Blackmagic full frame camera 36 by 24mm sensor for shallow depth of field filmmaking

Full Frame Sensor

36 × 24mm Sensor for Large Format Digital Film

The 36 × 24mm full frame sensor captures up to 6048 × 4032 in 3:2 open gate while providing 13 stops of dynamic range. Its larger imaging area gives cinematographers more flexibility with field of view, shallow depth of field and full frame lens coverage. The sensor also supports 6K 2.4:1 up to 60 fps, Super 16 windowed recording up to 100 fps and 1080 HD up to 120 fps.

Blackmagic 6K open gate camera full sensor framing for anamorphic and reframing workflows

6K Open Gate

6K Open Gate Cinema Camera for Flexible Framing

A 6K open gate cinema camera records the full 6048 × 4032 3:2 sensor area at up to 36 fps, leaving extra image area for reframing and multiple delivery formats. The camera also records 4832 × 4032 anamorphic 6:5 up to 36 fps for high-resolution widescreen acquisition. That flexibility is useful when one shoot needs theatrical, corporate video and social media deliverables from the same master footage.

Blackmagic L-Mount cinema camera lens mount for modern full frame and adapted vintage lenses

L-Mount Camera

Active L-Mount Camera for Flexible Lens Choices

An active L-Mount camera gives crews access to supported electronic lenses while retaining a short flange distance that works well with many adapted lens systems. Iris and focus control are supported on compatible lenses, and current camera software supports single-shot, continuous, object-tracking and face-tracking autofocus with compatible L-Mount glass. This makes the body adaptable for cinema primes, compact photo lenses and lighter location rigs.

Blackmagic HDR cinema camera 13 stop dynamic range for mixed light commercial production

HDR Cinema Camera

13 Stop Dynamic Range Camera for HDR Acquisition

A 13 stop dynamic range camera preserves usable detail across bright highlights and deep shadows when exposure conditions change quickly. Dual native ISO 400 and 3200 gives crews two optimized sensitivity ranges for lit stages and available-light locations. Combined with Blackmagic RAW, the result is a practical HDR acquisition path for documentary production, interviews, branded content and controlled studio shoots.

Blackmagic vertical video camera frame guides for social media and mobile content production

Vertical Video

Cinema Camera for Vertical Social Media Production

A cinema camera for vertical social media production can capture high-resolution masters while preserving framing for 9:16 and 4:5 delivery. Portrait orientation metadata can be recorded in Blackmagic RAW and H.264 proxies, helping clips arrive in post with the intended orientation. Frame guides and the rotating on-screen interface make the same body practical for commercial campaigns, social content and corporate communications.

Blackmagic RAW post-production workflow with H.264 proxies and DaVinci Resolve Studio

Blackmagic RAW

6K Blackmagic RAW Camera with Real-Time Proxies

A 6K Blackmagic RAW camera keeps high-bit-depth camera originals available for grading while simultaneously creating 1920 × 1080 H.264 proxy files in 8-bit 4:2:0. Constant bitrate choices include 3:1, 5:1, 8:1 and 12:1, with constant quality Q0, Q1, Q3 and Q5 modes for different storage and image priorities.

DaVinci Resolve Studio is included, so editorial, color, visual effects and audio post can stay inside the same production ecosystem. For remote post-production and distributed teams, proxies can move quickly while original Blackmagic RAW files remain available for finishing.

Real-World Workflows

USB-C external disk recording workflow for documentary and independent film production

Documentary Production

Long-Form 6K Recording to External Media

Use the USB-C expansion port to record directly to compatible external media when a documentary or independent film day calls for longer takes and quick handoff to post. Blackmagic RAW originals and H.264 proxies give the editor both high-quality camera files and lightweight review media.

Carbon fiber cinema camera body for handheld commercial and location filmmaking rigs

Commercial Production

Compact Full Frame Rig for Location Crews

The carbon fiber polycarbonate composite body keeps the camera compact enough for handheld, tripod and lightweight support builds. Commercial crews can pair full frame L-Mount glass with onboard recording, professional audio inputs and external USB-C media without turning the camera into a large studio package.

Five inch HDR touchscreen camera controls for corporate video and content creation

Corporate Video

Fast Touchscreen Setup for Small Production Teams

The 5-inch 1920 × 1080 capacitive touchscreen gives small crews direct access to frame rate, shutter, white balance, ISO, audio and other camera settings. At 1500 nits, the display is bright enough for many location setups without forcing every corporate video or content creation rig to carry a separate monitor.
