The Matrox Convert DVI family of scan converters lets broadcasters easily and economically take the computer-based content that is quickly becoming a key part of the nightly news to air. These products are ideal for creating broadcast video from computer applications such as Skype, YouTube, Google Earth, video games, and web browsers, as well as citizen journalists’ mobile phone videos. They are also the perfect appliances to drive projectors and large displays at live events and in houses of worship.

Quality HD-SDI scan converters with genlock and upscaling typically cost thousands of dollars each and SDI audio embedders are often required. Costs balloon when facilities require multiple units. The Matrox Convert DVI products are very inexpensive by comparison and allow system audio to be embedded in the SDI signal. They provide the high-end features, outstanding quality, and ease-of-use necessary in broadcast and live event operations.

Controls are provided via an intuitive PC-based graphical user interface which can include a live preview pane for scaling and positioning in context. By simply dragging a mouse, rather than fiddling with buttons on the unit itself, you can choose to output the entire screen or a region-of-interest of any size. Premium features such as a flicker reduction filter, customizable presets with user-assignable hotkeys, password protection, SD pixel aspect ratio compensation, and a stand-alone mode ensure optimal flexibility for many different applications.

In applications where the DVI signal is not coming from a computer, but from a medical or industrial camera for example, the Matrox Convert DVI products can operate independently of a PC to deliver SDI and analog video.

Input
The Matrox Convert DVI products accept common progressive DVI-D signal resolutions up to 1920x1200. A third-party HDMI or DisplayPort to DVI adapter lets you use them with GPU cards that feature HDMI or DisplayPort ouputs.

Default desktop resolutions (60 Hz):

640 x 480
720 x 480
720 x 576
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 720
1280 x 1024
1600 x 1200
1680 x 1050
1920 x 1080
1920 x 1200

An EDID loading tool lets you customize the device to support other resolutions including those with 75 and 50 Hz refresh rates. The 50 Hz refresh rate should be used with 25- and 50-fps outputs for optimal quality.

Output
The Matrox Convert DVI products provide a full complement of outputs including HD/SD-SDI, HD/SD analog component, S-Video, and composite. Your choice of analog output and the SDI output are simultaneously live.

Supported output standards:
NTSC
PAL
HD 1280 x 720p at 50 and 59.94 fps
HD 1920 x 1080i at 25 and 29.97 fps

Audio Support
The Matrox Convert DVI products accept stereo audio input. The audio input is routed to the audio output for monitoring and is embedded into two channels of the SDI signal. Audio and video synchronization is maintained throughout the hardware processing chain.

Genlock
The Matrox Convert DVI products can be genlocked to an SD analog black burst (bi-level) or HD tri-level genlock source. Horizontal and vertical timing offset controls can be used to align your video output relative to your external genlock source to compensate for cable delays within your facility.

High-quality hardware scaling
Matrox Convert DVI provides horizontal and vertical downscaling. Matrox Convert DVI Plus provides horizontal and vertical downscaling and upscaling. Proper color space and aspect ratio conversion are applied as necessary. Anamorphic, letterbox, pillarbox, and centercut shortcuts are provided.

Region-of-interest
The Matrox Convert DVI products let you output your entire computer screen or focus on details in a region-of-interest of any size within the larger resolution. The region-of-interest can be selected by entering screen coordinates or by simply clicking and dragging your mouse over the area you want to output. You can pan the region-of-interest window over the computer screen with realtime output update.

Matrox Convert DVI lets you downscale your region-of-interest for SD output applications.

Matrox Convert DVI Plus lets you downscale or upscale your region-of-interest to any size and position it anywhere on the output screen over a colored, super-white or super-black background to facilitate downstream keying. Matrox Convert DVI Plus is ideal for HD output applications.

Hotkey-triggered output signal freeze/unfreeze
Matrox Convert DVI Plus provides a freeze broadcast output control so that you can transition from one layout to the next without broadcasting the intermediate content displayed on the computer screen.

Stand-alone mode
The Matrox Convert DVI products are controlled and configured by a PC-based user interface via a USB connection. Once configured, they can be programmed to behave as stand-alone appliances so that the control PC can then be disconnected. This lets you use another DVI device as your input such as a medical or industrial camera, a Mac computer, or even another PC. When a unit is in stand-alone mode, the settings cannot be tampered with and configuration information is maintained when the unit is turned off.

Flicker reduction
The Matrox Convert DVI products provide an anti-flicker filter to reduce artifacts that result from converting progressive images to interlaced video, resulting in a more stable output.

Proc amp controls
Matrox Convert DVI Plus provides proc amp controls so that you can adjust color and brightness levels.

Customizable presets and password protection
Project and region-of-interest presets can be saved and retrieved at will. Once the proper parameters are set, the Convert DVI control panel can be locked and password protected by an administrator to prevent accidental modifications or tampering.
