Blackmagic Design recently announced the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, a next-generation professional broadcast camera equipped with a 6K digital film sensor that brings digital film quality to traditional and online broadcasters alike. With a dual gain ISO of up to +36dB and a dynamic range of 13 stops, the advanced 6144 x 3456 digital film sensor delivers exceptional low-light performance. Additionally, the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 supports H.265 and Blackmagic RAW file formats, as well as Blackmagic generation 5 color science and a USB-C expansion port for external disk recording.

BLACKMAGIC URSA BROADCAST G2

The new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 camera is an incredibly powerful tool for traditional and online broadcasters alike. The camera's three-camera configuration enables it to function as a 4K production camera, a 4K studio camera, or a 6K digital film camera. It's an ideal solution for broadcasters because it utilizes existing lenses and batteries. Customers can record to standard SD cards, UHS-II cards, CFast 2.0 cards, or external USB disks using industry-standard file formats such as H.265, Apple ProRes, or Blackmagic RAW. This means that it works with all video editing software and broadcast media management systems. Additionally, customers can swap out the lens mount. No other broadcast camera offers such versatility.

Customers get the same imaging technology found in digital film cameras thanks to the large 6K sensor and Blackmagic generation 5 color science. With a resolution of 6144 x 3456 pixels, the 6K sensor is versatile enough for broadcast and digital film work. Customers who use B4 lenses receive a 4K window of the sensor for Ultra HD broadcast use. Then, when customers switch to a PL or EF lens mount, they can utilize the sensor's full 6K resolution for digital film. With a dynamic range of 13 stops, customers get deeper blacks and brighter whites, making it ideal for color correction. The use of digital film in broadcast represents a quantum leap in image quality.

The new URSA Broadcast offers exceptional low-light performance, allowing customers to shoot with ambient light or even moonlight. With gain ranging from -12dB (100 ISO) to +36dB (25,600 ISO), the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is optimized to reduce grain and noise in images while maintaining the sensor's full dynamic range. Gain can be adjusted via camera switch, LCD menu, or remotely via SDI remote camera control protocol.

The URSA Broadcast G2 is equipped with a B4 broadcast lens mount and optics that are optimized for the camera's sensor. Customers can use either modern Ultra HD lenses or less expensive HD lenses with the B4 lens mount. Because older HD lenses frequently have resolutions well beyond HD, customers receive excellent quality at a low price. B4 lenses are fantastic because they are par-focal, which means that the image remains sharp as customers zoom in and out, eliminating the need for customers to constantly chase focus while shooting. Additionally, customers receive complete electronic lens control, allowing them to adjust the focus, iris, and zoom using the camera's controls or remotely. Additionally, customers can change the mount to PL, EF, or others if they wish.
