Blackmagic Design Announces DaVinci Resolve 17.4

Fremont, CA, USA - Thursday, October 21, 2021 - Blackmagic Design recently announced DaVinci Resolve 17.4, which significantly increases the speed of DaVinci Resolve on the new Apple Mac models equipped with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. Customers can now playback, edit, and grade 8K projects faster than ever before, and work with up to 12 streams of 8K footage.

DaVinci Resolve 17.4 can be downloaded immediately from the Blackmagic Design website.

Additionally, DaVinci Resolve 17.4 accelerates the decoding of 12K Blackmagic RAW files by over three times and the rendering of H.265 files by 1.5 times. Additionally, the performance of the DaVinci Neural Engine is up to four times faster, enabling real-time facial recognition, object detection, and smart reframing! Support for ProMotion 120Hz displays enables incredibly smooth playback and editing, and HDR viewers are also supported on Apple's new MacBook HDR displays.

Dropbox Replay integration is also included in DaVinci Resolve 17.4. DaVinci Resolve Studio projects will seamlessly transfer to Dropbox Replay for easy video review and approval. Dropbox Replay's frame-accurate colored markers, comments, and annotations are synced almost instantly to the DaVinci Resolve timeline. Additionally, customers will only need to sign in once with a simple login. Additionally, quick and easy render setup via dedicated Dropbox and Dropbox Replay presets, as well as automatic background uploads that are monitored for progress and confirmed when complete, are included.

DaVinci Resolve 17.4 includes automatic background and cursor resizing and placement when creating captions, as well as nested timeline subtitle tracks that now auto-populate the main timeline to expedite caption creation.

Additionally, the edit page has been enhanced with improved functionality for positioning curves in the timeline, allowing customers to more easily adjust the ease in and out points. This results in a more customized transition between points when zooming or repositioning an image. Additionally, customers will be able to use the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor to quickly switch between cameras in multicam clips on the edit page, which will speed up the process of cutting programs together. Additional support for asymmetrical trimming enables customers to change the in point of a transition without affecting the out point, or vice versa, allowing them to fine-tune work more quickly.

Customers benefit from enhanced support for languages that use combined glyphs and those that write right to left, such as Arabic and Hebrew. When combined with enhanced vertical layouts, rotation, and line direction capabilities when using Text+, this enables customers to work in a broader range of languages and layouts.

DaVinci Resolve 17.4 improves support for automatic color management, making project setup faster and easier. Additionally, this update adds support for ACES 1.3, which includes gamut compression, allowing customers to display wide gamut images more accurately and ensure they are receiving the best representation of the source image.

A new Resolve FX called custom mixer enables customers to combine effects and fine-tune grade adjustments. Additionally, a new 3D keyer enables finer adjustments to the key and matte finesse settings, simplifying the process of creating clean masks with more accurate keys and finer edges. Additionally, there is a new film halation effect for DaVinci Resolve Studio that adds the effect of a glow or light reflections around high contrast edges, giving images a more filmic look.

Fairlight audio now supports Steinberg VST3 audio plugins, providing customers with additional audio effects for creating the perfect soundtrack. Additionally, keyboard shortcuts or click and drag are used to reorder, move, and duplicate effects in the Fairlight mixer, single-sided audio transitions are displayed as fades, and multi channel audio outputs are supported.

When customers complete projects, they can now export them with YouTube video chapters, with improved encode settings for the YouTube render preset, and with the ability to use hardware-accelerated H.265 on Windows.
